Folding Beds

The folding bed is used for a variety of circumstances, usually short term in nature. These beds also have various names such as extra, camping, spare, guest, hideaway, portable, roll away, and stow away beds. There is very little difference between these types of folding beds. The main advantage is that they are convenient, easy to setup, and relatively effective at reduced storage space. Most people have a folding bed for the purpose of a guest or short term arrangement in their home.

The most common usage is probably the unexpected overnight guest. It is particularly effective if you don't have a spare bedroom. Most portable beds can be rolled to the room of choice, unfolded, and made up ready to sleep within a matter of minutes. These beds can also be used if children have friends over to spend the night. This is a better option or at least more comfortable than using sleeping bags on the floor.

A lot of couches have what is called a hideaway bed which is stationary. You pull off the cushions on the couch to reveal a handle which you can pull out. Then the bed will fold over. There are various foldaway beds that come in a variety of material such as wood or metal frames. These are not the most comfortable beds ever, but it sure beats sleeping on the floor! Another fold out type of bed is known as the Murphy bed. This type of folding bed actually folds directly into the wall by using a piston lift mechanism.

Fortunately, a folding bed is very affordable and can be very useful in a pinch. There are lots of different places that sell folding beds. You can purchase one at your local mattress store, a furniture store, or an outdoor supply company. You can even find some in department stores if you're lucky. I recommend doing some online shop though to compare different prices and options. You can always visit your local store afterwords and you will be far more equipped to shop their after some online research. And who knows, you might find an even better price online than you would locally anyways.
